A total energy unit (TEU) is a modular built up layout to the production of electric energy and warmth which is pursued mainly at the place of the warm consumption, but also benefit warmth can feed into a close warmth net. She uses in addition the principle of the strength warmth coupling.

Usual BHKW modules have electric performances between five kilowatts and five megawatts.
Less than 50 kW one also speaks of Mini-Kraft-Wärme-Kopplung (Mini-KWK), less than 15 kW of mike KWK.
Mini and Mikro-KWK is used in single-family dwellings and apartment houses, companies and in the settlement construction. The strength warmth coupling is also used in heating power plants, there typically with electric performances by some hundred MW.
